How campus package volume scales with enrollment
A rough rule of thumb across our deployments: a residential campus generates between 0.25 and 0.40 packages per student per week during the steady term. That number swings violently around move-in, holidays, and finals.
Move-in week is typically a 3–4× multiplier. Black Friday and the December gift window run 2.5–3.5×. Plan capacity to the peak, not the average.
Door count planning works best at roughly one door per 8 packages of weekly steady-state volume, with a 20% buffer for peak. Larger doors should be 15–20% of the bank, mediums 50%, and smalls the rest.
Commuter-heavy campuses see lower per-student rates but more sharply concentrated pickup windows. Smaller banks with longer pickup windows usually work.
Whatever model you use, instrument it. The single biggest mistake is sizing once and never re-checking — package mix and volume shift every year.
